TempleLive - Cleveland
The Dead South - February, 2024
At TempleLive, I play an important role in venue operations, taking on a wide range of responsibilities that contribute to the smooth execution of events. Starting as an intern, I quickly integrated into the team, working directly with the General Manager and often serving as the acting manager in their absence.
As the Assistant General Manager, I assist with all operational aspects, with my primary responsibility being the Bar Manager, while also supporting the box office and security operations. On show days, I help with load-in/out, including production and artist hospitality setup, guest lists, and special passes. Additionally, I assist with settlements and post-show financials, ensuring all accounts are accurately reconciled.
As Bar Manager, I oversee staffing, inventory tracking, theoretical sheets, and purchasing. I also integrate seasonal and show-specific drink specials to generate additional revenue. This role has strengthened my skills in personnel management, inventory management, and demographic targeting.
Beyond bar management, I am heavily involved in the operations of the box office, handling ticket sales, VIP/Guest List management, and TicketMaster backend processes.
My time at TempleLive continues to be an invaluable learning experience, providing hands-on knowledge of the music industry’s financial, operational, and managerial aspects. I have developed leadership skills by coordinating various departments and ensuring that each event runs smoothly. Working on notable shows such as Violent Femmes, Bad Religion, and Megadeth, I’ve gained firsthand experience in high-stakes event management, learning to navigate the challenges of artist relations, audience expectations, and the unpredictable nature of live entertainment.
This experience has solidified my passion for the music industry, particularly in venue and event management. Through the fast-paced, often demanding environment of TempleLive, I continue to improve my ability to problem-solve, adapt quickly, and lead effectively—skills that will be invaluable as I advance my career in the music industry.
